What if you could easily learn all the music theory you need to take your music to the next level?
Yes! It is possible. If you're a musician, EDM producer, beat-maker or DJ, you can now unlock the power of music theory and apply it immediately to your tracks:
You worked on your next track for days but you feel that something is missing...
The reality lived by 90%+ of EDM producers is different from the dream: we dream of being inspired musicians blessed by a constant creative flow, going from being a “bedroom producer” to a legitimate touring artist.
So we dive into the process, we switch our computers on, we select sounds and loops and we start creating our musical masterpiece. Then we stop, we listen and...we feel that something is missing.
So we double our efforts, we try different samples, we tweak countless settings, we change our plugins and still, after hours or days of trials, we don't hear any significant improvement. Why is that?
If you feel that something is missing in your music, probably it has to do with music theory
Music theory is the language behind music, writing music without learning its fundamentals is like speaking without knowing the grammar of your language. Music theory gives you deeper insights into why certain songs sound good or bad, ignoring those concepts is like trying to build a house without understanding the basic rules of architecture...you’re setting you up for failure.
You heard that music theory could be useful but it's so hard to learn...or it isn't?
The reality is that how music theory is usually taught is unfair as it starts with the assumption that you can read music, play an instrument and understand the language of classical music as it was composed and written centuries ago. This can be frustrating and it’s not taking into consideration that musicians today produce a different kind of music and live in a golden age of tools and technology with limitless possibilities.
The truth is that you’re already in a great position to learn music theory but no one told you that
Modern musicians work directly in the MIDI grid of their favorite DAW. Seeing the information clearly laid out in your music software will make these music theory concepts easier to understand and make the process in tune with how musicians produce music today
The music theory fundamentals taught here can be learned in a short period of time (you don't need years to learn how to build a chord progression) and they are used by 99% of the EDM and pop music out there
Modern musicians manipulate sounds with computers, plug-ins and virtual instruments. Don't get me wrong, being able to play an instrument can give you an advantage in certain situations (and it's wonderful, I love playing piano!) but nowadays it's not needed to produce great music
So who are you and where are you now?

Right now you might be in one of these quadrants (or in between them!) depending on your current knowledge of music theory (x-axis) and your current experience making music while leveraging on new technologies (y-axis).
1. Willing Apprentice: you're enthusiast about making music but don't really know how to properly use a DAW and you don't know any concepts about music theory (nor you know how to apply them)
2. Committed Scholar: you're advanced in your study of music theory but you're still thinking and producing music in the "old-fashioned" way (I was here!)
3. Tech Enthusiast: you are an undercover "geek" who knows everything about his software, loops, plug-ins and DAW. You heard about music theory but you don't really know how and what to learn nor how to apply that knowledge to your current production process (often EDM producers, beat-makers or DJs are here!)
4. Inspired Master: if you dedicate enough time to improve both your music theory knowledge and your tech expertise, you will become an "inspired master" who knows how to make the best out of both worlds.
Usually people tend to develop only one of the two aspects, but it's when you combine them on purpose that you take you music to the next level and become an unstoppable creative force.
Making music is harder than it seems, it’s a complex adventure and if you want to succeed you need to be properly equipped. Otherwise it would be like diving without mask, fins and scuba tank....you don’t want to do that!
So how can I quickly learn all the music theory I need to take my music to the next level?

"Music Theory from Scratch" is a comprehensive online course that bridges the gap between music theory knowledge and tech expertise with the aim of taking your music to the next level.
The course is designed and optimized for the modern musician and producer (eg. EDM producers, DJs, Beat makers): all music theory concepts are easily explained and immediately applied to make music in your DAW. No need to read notes or play an instrument, the creative process explained here is in tune with how musicians produce music today and leverages on the power of new technologies so that you can become an "Inspired Master" and achieve your goals much faster

What Makes the "Making Music from Scratch" Course Different?
The "Making Music from Scratch" course is not your average online course.
Here are 4 reasons why:
Pragmatic & Implementation Focused
It’s nice to learn new things, but just learning won’t get better results for your music. That’s why this course is all about applying these concepts immediately in your DAW. That’s why all concepts and formulas are shown in hands-on demonstrations to help you get up and running much faster: you'll know exactly what to do once you're back to your gear. The value of this course comes from what you’ll do differently, not just from watching a bunch of video lectures.
Easily Understandable
I believe that anyone can learn Music Theory and my approach is to minimize memorization and clearly explain why some elements (eg. chords, scale) behave in certain ways. If you know my YouTube channel you will see that there is an entire video series dedicated to explain music theory concepts (in only 2 minutes) to people who don’t have any formal music education. And people seem to appreciate it!
Designed & Optimized for the Modern Musician
These classes use the same syllabus used by formal music education institutions (at a fraction of the cost) but the content is filtered: you will only learn what is relevant to Electronic Music Producers which will reduce unnecessary complexity and save you time. Also, the use of a Midi grid makes the process in tune with how musicians produce music today
Systematic Approach
This course will provide a systematic approach to the creative process. Sometimes it’s hard to even know where to start but in these classes you will learn several creative strategies that will help you come up with new ideas more easily and overcome the “writer’s block” every time you sit down to start writing and producing a new (amazing!) song.

About The Course Teacher,
Davide Di Bello (Dave Wave)
Davide Di Bello (Dave Wave) is an Italian musician, EDM producer, video maker and YouTuber. His music and playing style combines several music genres with elements coming from Jazz (eg. Stride Piano, Swing, Soul) and EDM (eg. Electro Swing, Swing House). He received attention on Youtube as his videos went viral several times receiving more than 60 million views.
Beyond producing EDM tracks and playing piano, one of his great passions is teaching and helping other musicians create more and better music. This is why he started the production of a series of educational videos ("What's...? In 2 minutes") with the aim of showing "how music works" to people who don't know anything about music theory. The series combines simple explanations with intuitive graphics and it has already received +4 million views on YouTube.
Now he has decided to take this passion to another level with "Music Theory from Scratch": a comprehensive course of music theory dedicated to the modern musician
Here’s what people are saying about Dave Wave on YouTube
These are comment of people watching my series of educational videos called "What's...? In 2 minutes" that aims at showing "how music works" also to people who don't know anything about music theory. The series combines simple explanations with intuitive graphics and it has already received +4 million views.
The Value of This Course
This class is an accelerated process that takes you through years of intensive music school which would typically be priced at $10,000 or higher. Even the if you take into consideration to hire a private teacher, depending on the cost per hour in your country (which could go between 50$ to 100$) you will need at least 20 lessons to cover the entire content of this course, which means spending at least 1,000$ (if not more). And usually in formal education classes they don't necessarily show you how to apply these concepts in your DAW.
My aim, instead, is to make this level of music education as accessible as possible.
And remember: this is a commitment you are making to yourself and it represents an investment in yourself. The time between now and a few months from now will pass either way. Where will you be when the time's up?

Frequently asked questions
Yes, absolutely. Think of “from scratch” not as an imperative, as in: “you must start from zero” but as a statement about how thorough the course is. “Even if you start from zero, this will work”. Even if you have some experience in producing music or in music theory, but you want to improve your approach to music making, expand your creative possibilities and take your music to the next level, then this course is perfect for you.
All of the core content is ready for you to access immediately after your purchase. You can go through the course at your own pace. There are several bonus modules that will be released in the future and you will be notified when it happens.
There are no upsells in this course. When you buy the course, you get the course and that’s it. You will get a notification when I'll add new strategies and creatives tactics to the course but you won’t be hit over the head with a series of upsells when you make your purchase of this course
The only thing you absolutely need for this class is a computer and some software to make music. This software (called your Digital Audio Workstation, or DAW) can be any option you prefer.
In this class I'm going to use Logic Pro X (by Apple) but you’ll be able to apply these concepts within any DAW. If you’re already comfortable with a DAW, I encourage you to stick with that. Once you enroll, I’ll provide you with a full list of possible DAWs — both free options and paid options. I’ll also let you know some of the other optional, but nice-to-have gear like headphones and MIDI keyboards.
Compared to what? It takes longer than making a coffee. It takes longer to learn the fundamentals of music theory then it does to randomly throw some loops in your DAW and hope for the best. But here you're investing on yourself, you know the old say: "Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day. Teach him how to fish and you feed him for a lifetime”? Learning music theory is like learning how to fish, once you know how to do it you’ll be able to “fish” naturally (= create an infinite number of amazing tracks!). Remember: the time between now and a few months from now will pass either way. Where will you be when the time's up?
This course is designed and optimized for the modern musician with different skill levels (as the quadrants we have seen above, you can be a "willing apprentice", a "committed scholar" or a "tech enthusiast"): whether you’re new to making music, an instrumentalist or songwriter who wants to learn how to leverage the power of new technologies, or a more experienced producer interested in learning more about music theory and looking to accelerate your growth and expand your skills. This course is designed so that you can practice and learn on the edge of your own personal abilities.
I'm forever grateful that I came across ideas and teachers who led me down the path I've taken as a musician and producer. I started playing piano at the age of 6, I studied classical music for years until, at the age of 18, I switched to jazz and discovered cool things like improvisation, stride piano and swing (cool but very frustrating: learning how to improvise after years of classical training was very hard!).
I then realized that I knew how to play an instrument, I had an advanced knowledge of music theory but in the meantime the world had evolved: I was still recording and producing music in the "old-fashioned" way and I was missing out on all the limitless creative possibilities that modern softwares were providing. I then decided to develop my tech expertise which, combined with music theory concepts, really help me take my EDM tracks to another level and eventually share them on YouTube. This course is based on this experience.
I've seen so many people who are really good at using loops, plug-ins or virtual instruments but they don't know any music theory, maybe because they think it's too hard to learn or that it doesn't matter. This is a pity because I'm sure that with the right knowledge of music theory and a little bit of effort their creative potential could really take off. This course is designed to help more people as possible pursue their dreams.
I'm looking forward to doing my very best to teach you everything I know on this topic. I'm excited about the idea that you too can experience this transformation and follow your passion. As you will see, learning new skills and bring creative ideas to life is an incredibly rewarding experience and I'm honored if you'll let me share a part of that journey with you.
